Greg Karungo's association with Walker Kontos began in 1997 when he clerked for the firm while earning valuable experience during his school holidays. Upon completion of his law degree from the University of Nairobi, Greg joined the firm as an Advocate in the year 2003. He is now a partner in the firm's litigation department.

He attained his LL.M (Banking Law) from the University of South Africa in the year 2007 and was admitted as a Partner in the year 2011.

Greg's practice covers a wide range of corporate and commercial litigation with particular emphasis on employment, property, succession and intellectual property disputes. He routinely advises Companies on workforce restructuring, compliance policies and in the negotiation and drafting of individual employment, severance and settlement agreements. Greg's broad based practice includes the acquisition and disposal of real estate, regional trademark registrations, plant breeders rights, debt recovery and security realization, tax disputes, public procurement disputes, wills, probate and administration of estate.

Litigation

  • Successfully challenging the unconstitutional cancellation of titles of valuable properties along Mombasa road including properties belonging to Pristine Properties and Nishan Properties.


Employment

  • Advising on the Employee restructuring programme at the Nairobi Securities Exchange Limited.


Intellectual Property

  • Acting for various breeders including NIRP International, in securing their plant breeders rights in Kenya.
  • Acting for a number of companies including Airtel and Antipest in registering their trademarks in Kenya and in the region.


Debt Recovery

  • Advising on the sale of immoveable property charged to various financial institutions including Barclays Bank, KCB, Housing Finance and Cfc Stanbic Bank Limited.


Property

  • Acting for the Nairobi Securities Exchange in the extension of Lease of a property, the processing of a change of user and the acquisition of their new Headquarters in Nairobi.

 

Greg is a member of the Legislation and Law Reform Committee of the Law Society of Kenya.
